Why is aerobic activity important? Physical inactivity is one major risk factor for developing coronary artery disease that is characterized by deposits of fatty substances, cholesterol, calcium and other inner lining of arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle. It also develops other risk factors like obesity, high blood pressure, etc.

Before starting a vigorous exercise program people should consult their doctor or other health care provider if any of these conditions apply to you: * You have a heart problem or you have had a stroke. * You have a chest pain. * Your doctor has recommended you to take some medicine for heart condition or blood pressure. * If you are middle-aged or older and haven't been physically active and have planned a vigorous exercise program. * You tend to feel extremely breathless after mild exertion. * You tend to fall due to dizziness. * You tend to loose consciousness. If none of the above are true for you then you can start your regular or gradual aerobic activity. And if you feel any of these activities during the exercise then contact your doctor immediately.
